Baptism Of Fire For New Gap Line-Up

Gap Connah's Quay open their first season under returning manager Jim Hackett with a trip to The Gnoll to face Neath Athletic on 15 August, though this may be put back to the following day to conform with Neath Athletic's preference for Sunday football. The following Friday (21 August) newly renamed Elements Cefn Druids visit Deeside Stadium before Gap Connah's Quay face last season's top three in successive fixtures, away to Llanelli for another long haul Sunday awayday, Rhyl at home the following Friday and then away at TNS. With several of last season's first teamers already having moved on to pastures new, including strikers Michael Cronshaw (Welshpool) and Aden Shannon (Porthmadog) and Hacko's charges will need to collect points in the opening week if they are to avoid an uphill task from the outset. 2009/10 fixtures in full.

Gap CQ have been handed a generous draw in next season's League Cup by being grouped with Caersws and Porthmadog, the trade-off being that neither of these opponents have the same crowd-pulling potential that last season's grouping with Rhyl and Prestatyn represented, that dubious honour going to Connah's Quay's ambitious neighbours Airbus UK Broughton, for whom this may be a breakthrough season.

The six group winners and the two best runners-up will qualify for the last eight. Fixture and group details are linked here. Source: welsh-premier.com
